Survivor

Gary Pack

On Sept 11, 2001, I went to see my doctor for the results of a routine physical exam. She said the chest x-ray shows a small spot on my left lung that was probalby nothing “but we would need to keep an eye on it.”
Well an hour later the whole world changed when the Twin Towers went down and not long after that my personal world changed too. I put the “spot” far in the back of my mind.

Survivor

Lela Selby

In May of 2003, I felt a sharp pain in the left Ovary area. At the completion of an Ultrasound, I had doctors in my room. I was told that I had either Ovarian Cancer or Uterine Cancer. A week later, I had a complete Hysterectomy. It was not those cancers!

 CY BALL

In Loving Memory of Cyril F. “Cy” Ball.

May 7th, 1947 –  April 21, 2021.

I find that talking about my cancer is therapeutic. Also, carcinoid is unusual enough that I hope somebody reading this may decide to go to their doctor and get tested because their symptoms are similar. Many doctors are not familiar with this and some doctors are familiar but don’t understand. My story is not very unusual. Many carcinoid have symptoms that go unexplained for years or they don’t have symptoms but the tumors are discovered by accident during unrelated procedures.
